Till Death Do Us Laugh

Summary: Till Ending Do Us Wait

On the technical side, this movie is executed very well. The canted angles and eerie lighting are well rendered, leading us down spooky streets and corridors, promising the viewer something scary is about to happen. Unfortunately it's an unfullfilled promise as most of the horror is predictable. As with all anthology movies, some stories are better than others. TDDUL is no exeption to the rule. The first story, while having it's very funny moments, falls flat with a lame payoff. The second story is standard fare. The last story isn't really scary, but it is well acted. 6/10

I went to this movie with a friend soley because after VIVA EROTICA, we wanted to see more of Shu Kei (so to speak). I fully expected this trio of stories (with a fourth framing story) to be dumb Hong Kong horror-comedies and for the most part, this was true. The third story, however, was pretty good. Since it might get overlooked in this otherwise forgettable movie, I thought I should point it out. I liked the central idea of the story (which I can't reveal without spoiling the story) and watching Yuen Wing Yee and Shu Kei together for 30 minutes was not particularly painful. Perhaps not quite worth going to the theatre just to see this segment, but certainly worth renting and skipping the other stories.

Summary: NULL

An investigative reporter has been invited to an exclusiveannual dinner of the "Strange and Unbelievable Experiences Society," where three stories are told, and the winner from the previous year is served for as the meal. This may explain the mediocre quality of the storytelling. The first is an office spooker about a beleaguered accountant who deliberately kills his fat boss by scaring him; but the man comes back by entering the soul of his new boss, a woman whose beauty is only exceeded by her desire for sex and revenge. The second is a collegiate tale involving a supposed curse, a cadaver, a pretty coed who makes out to be a ghost from the nearby Lotus Pond, and the underclassman who turns the tables on her. The last one is the least bad, with Anita Yuen as a newlywed so scared of the dark when her husband's gone that she takes on a pretty coed as a roommate. But the roomie turns out to be a disembodied ghost set on stealing Anita's life, husband, and career by being her duplicate. Strictly a movie for undemanding teens on dates -- though it does have its lion's share of Asian cuties.
