Summary: Suprising fun!!

OK this movie has little horror and lots of softcore sex, but somehow the movie was entertaining. It's not till the end that some action occurs but what helps this movie is the pace of it. You never feel bored, myabe because there are so many sex scenes............

7/10

Summary: not awful

I think the positive things I've heard about this film mostly come from truly jaded HK horror fans, so beaten into submission by films like GOD.COM and DIAL "D" FOR DEMONS that anything that even remotely passes for entertainment in that genre gets a big thumbs up. That said, this really isn't a bad way to kill an hour and a half or so. All the usual HK horror trapping are here, and the obvious lack of budgetary funds leads to a few painful moments, but this film is packed with endless softcore sex scenes, some of which are quite bizarre, and deserves to be highly recommended for that. The film is not particularly gory or brutal, and it's certainly not very scary, just kind of weird and silly. Still, it's a lot better than the usual category III junk, and you could (and probably have, if you're reading this review) do a lot worse. However, I should point out that the lead actress, who is gorgeous, has one of the strangest approaches to onscreen nudity I've ever seen. She's naked constantly, and has several explicit sex scenes that don't leave much to the imagination, but in every shot, something is covering her nipples! It comes very close to AUSTIN POWERS-esque satire at times. If you see the film, you'll know what I mean. I guess she had a "plenty of nudity, no nipples" clause in her contract or something. I would like to see other films of hers to discover if this is a theme. She's not a bad actress, but it's pretty distracting.

Incidentally, without giving too much away, I suspect that aspects of this film influenced the 1999 Troma film TERROR FIRMER (directed by Lloyd Kaufman). Check it out.

Summary: Surprisingly good erotic horror/slasher

The first 70 mins or so alternate between moderately eerie character/plot development and raunchy sex'n'nudity. The short remainder is as gory and cruel as any HK slasher, and is seriously nasty. For instance, a woman is tied up and raped, then killed because she has a perfect pussy (hey, I didn't write the script !). The plot is pretty involved, though it lacks depth, and has shades of Psycho and Dr Lamb.
Pang Dan has never looked lovelier, and even manages to act half-well. She appears nude in several scenes but, like Amy Yip, always keeps the best bits covered (damn !). No worries, the other female actors more than make up for it. Mark Cheng looks totally bored, right up until the last few minutes, even while he has the enviable task of screwing Pang while ensuring that her breasts remain covered by his hands. Mark gets excited only to express anguish at being given a headjob by Jing Hua while tied up. And the luscious-lipped Dick Lau is always fun to watch - he's such a ham !
Overall : Highly erotic with ample and exciting sex'n'skin. Despite being only mildly unsettling in the horror department and the really grisly ending, quite enjoyable.

If ever you wanted to see what Diana Pang Dan was all about - I would probably have to recommend this film. I think this - along with Evil Instinct - are clearly her two best strictly from a film quality viewpoint - but this is also her most revealing film if you get my meaning (wink wink). The film is a mix of sex and horror - and it is fairly effective in doing both. Pang Dan goes into the hinterlands looking for her missing twin sister and ends up staying at this creepy inn along with a film crew headed by Mark Cheng. Pang Dan gets chased by a local tribe for interrupting their fertility rites and then by a few knife welding pyschos. It all gets pretty gory - but is surprisingly entertaining.
