點指兵兵之青年幹探 (1994)
In the Heat of Summer

Performance-driven drama about the daily lives of young Hong Kong police detectives, the pressures they face, and the comraderie that develops between them. Jordan Chan may be the most engaging actor working in Hong Kong today. Chan Kwok-Bong proves once again that he may be the most underrated actor.

Over the top, above my highest expectations. Recommended to thosewho liked The Final Option. Really good with the relationships between characters, or maybe it's me -- I like all three actors.

A realistic, sweaty, slightly offbeat police drama set in the scorching heat of summer. There is a loose plot centering around a disgruntled, self-righteous soldier turned terror-bomber. As well, the film focuses on the personal lives of the young cops, from girlfriends to kids to anxiety about passing a board examination. Over all, the film has a gritty but not overly dark tone. Chan Siu-Chun is one of the standout characters as a brash, big-talking young detective. A good story, good acting (except Ngai Chun-kit) and interesting all the way through. Recommended.

Quite compelling drama of young street detectives in HK. The bomber subplot is kind of cliche though.

Eschewing noir for blanc, this is something about a bunch of young, smart-ass cops pursuing a down-on-his-luck bomber and some jewelry thieves. Routine gunfights, crummy explosions.
