Law on the Brink

I liked Veronica a lot in this. Ray Lui is a slick, if notoutright crooked, Hong Kong lawyer, who comes to mainland China because his younger brother has been accused of murder. I can't tell you much about Veronica Yip's character without ruining the plot. There's a lot of comedy around the friction between Ray's Hong Kong ways and the mainlanders ways. Ray & Veronica interact really well. There's a third guy who plays kind of bumpkin Sherlock Holmes--I found his character both amusing and admirable.

Summary: NULL

Snazzy HK defense lawyer Shen Hwa Min (Ray Lui, with beard) goes to Peking when he discovers that his concert pianist brother is being sought for murder. The only problems: the victim's father, a man of great wealth and power, has vowed revenge, hitmen are every where, and the woman who saw the murder is nowhere to be found. Thank goodness Prefect Lan (lovely Veronica Yip, nearly the only reason for seeing this) is on the case (giving us a chance to see her hilarious reaction shots), and that she's being helped by a hard-working mainlander barrister. The movie finally limps home to its slapped-together happy ending with enough random entertaining moments to make it worthwhile. Low-budget chases by foot, bus, and makeshift skateboard.
