Summary: Decent cop movie

Despite the title, Road Warriors doesn't feature Danny Lee taking on bike gangs in a post-apocalyptic future -- but that kind of thing would probably be more exciting than what is featured here. As you might guess, Road Warriors is another in the long line of Danny Lee cop movies, the "twist" here that it focuses on motorcycle cops, ala Chips. The plot would even fit in with the TV show; it has Danny and his squad going after a rich-kid joyrider, and there's even a subplot about a "vicious" gang of kids on BMX bixes. Where's Ponch?

Ultimately, Road Warriors feels a bit flat -- we've seen this kind of stuff from Danny Lee many times before and the movie adds nothing new to the mix. Also, I felt the "pro-cop" sentiment (featured in most of Danny Lee's films) went a bit over the edge. One scene has an officer needing a blood transfusion, and I swear every cop in Hong Kong comes to the hospital. Still, some of the car chases are well-done and the acting is solid overall, so Road Warriors is worth a look if you like Danny Lee's cop stuff -- just don't expect anything too different or exciting.
