The Kung Fu Emperor

Shades of I Claudius ! Imagine Robert Graves' great historical potboiler transplanted to Ching/Manchu Dynasty China with kung fu added. Unfortunately, the result is barely average.
Which is puzzling, because all the ingredients appear to be in place. There are the usual quota of swordfights and smouldering stares. Ti Lung as the Fourth Prince walks a noble and almost saintly demeanour as he suffers derision by his brothers and the privations of jail. There are a couple of weird musical anachronisms. An inn singer warbles "As Time Goes By", and "There's No Business Like Show Business" even gets a run !
At the end, I was left with the impression of "nothing special". I'm not even sure this is one which Ti Lung's fans would even particularly enjoy.
