Summary: Unremarkable

Stephen Teo in his book describes this film as underrated. He could well be comparing the film to others made around the late 70s. For my money, there's not much which distinguishes this film from many other gritty crime thrillers. Pai Ying plays it entirely serious, and I couldn't detect a change in his expression the whole way through. I therefore found it hard to feel anything for him. More engaging was Shih Kien, who plays the two-timing and self-seeking Tam to the hilt.

The gritty realism is well done, and the supporting cast is of a high calibre. But I can't get away from this film being so .... undifferent.
