Reviewed by: dandan Date: 07/20/2009 Summary: mink will not let a person freeze to death... three friends; tai-duen (chan sing), lo (wong ching) and tu (james tin), venture south of the great wall in an attempt to make their fortune from hunting mink and finding ginseng root. after one narrow escape from the elements, the three friends find themselves lost in the wilderness again, but they stumble across mien mien (carrie lee) - a naked huntress - who takes them to her father's, old chen (wang hsieh), house. the three begin to settle in, helping old chen and enjoying themselves, however, this won't last. when lo tries to have his wicked way with mien mien, tai-duen steps in to save her and they end up falling for each other, but old chen has taken a shine to tu and offers him his daughter's hand in marriage. trouble is brewing... a slightly bizarre, and all the more entertaining for it, film, more of a drama / thriller, than a martial arts film, although there are a couple of nicely (sammo hung) choreographed sequences. the film moves at a quick pace and has several twists and turns which work really well, keeping you on your toes. the use of the rural location, mainly in winter, works really well and adds something else to the ambience of the film's first act. oh, and carrie lee is kinda cute... good stuff...
