I watched this new Pearl City release on vcd last night knowing nothing of the film other than Siao Fong Fong was in it, the film opens in CineArt Scope with a Shaw-like logo, the music Thus Sprach Zarathustra (the 2001 theme).

Opening scene beach scene girls with bikinis cavorting, Teresa Teng song on soundtrack. Then the dialogue begins...in Mandarin. Well, I'm not sure but it sure looks to me that the film was shot in Taiwan.

From what I could figure since I couldn't read the Chinese subtitles, Dani (Fong Fong) meets a boy (Chin Han) who lives with an older brother who has a little girl. Dani lives with her father and stepmother (Jenny Hu). Chin Han recognizes the stepmother as former showgirl and, as we later discover, mother of the little girl fathered by the older brother an unsuccessful gambler.

Pretty dull for the most part, the film is reminscent of the Brigitte Lin weepies, except that Jenny Hu looks ravishingly beautiful. Siao Fong Fong doesn't really have much to do here. The soundtrack is filled with Teresa Teng songs and melodies and one wild American song during a bar scene.
