Kuei Chi Hung covers all the bases in this Women In Prison exploitation film (set in a concentration camp rather than a criminal prison). Shades of Great Escape, but with lots and lots of naked flesh. WIP films are always a popular choice for exploitation films, probably because they're a good excuse for the film-makers to place women in degrading and debasing situations... you wouldn't see Steve McQueen getting raped or tortured by a gay prison guard, but in a female prison film it seems to be mandatory. This particular WIP film is actually pretty well made, with a decent story and some good performances - perhaps most interesting for the fact that 3 of the main characters are white women, and other than a brief mention of their ability to speak Mandarin they are treated no differently to the Asian cast. This was pretty uncommon at the time... hell, it still is.

This flick was an early entry into the sleaze and women flicks by the Shaw Brothers. The flick takes place during World War II. The Japanese are mean bastards who come in and take over a clinic (full of women) after they finish off a "Gwei Lo" pilot over-the-top-fashion, they practically make all the females work-sex slaves and ship them off to a detention camp. All the Japanese get their rocks off on the female captives, including a wicked Lesbian (Terry Liu-Princess Dragon Mom in Infra Man ) who is dying for female flesh. But as you watch the film, the film starts to slip away from the trashy side of filmmaking with female bondage, breasts, sex, etc. and introduce a little story line. You see, one of the female captives actually knows a hidden place in the countryside filled with gold. A Chinese (Lo Lieh), raised in Japan, and thought of as a Japanese now, somehow goes back to his roots and is now working undercover for the Chinese. His job is to make contact with the female captive and recover the gold. Unfortunately, the Japanese find out about the secret and the gold, and decide to play along with the whole situation so they can get the gold themselves. The chase leading to the gold was exciting and will have you on the edge of your seat, but the ending will leave you slouched back in your seat.

Summary: Typical W.I.P. film

I've seen a lot of films in my life so far, and if it's one thing that I've found is that W.I.P. flix are the same the world over.It doesn't matter if they're U.S., HK, Italian, German, whatever; they're all the same ilk.The 3 main ingredients are always the same: sleaze, torture and excessive female nudity. So, with that being said, if you've seen one then don't expect anything different from this one.Well, Shaw Brothers made this one, so I guess in a way that makes this one different.Whoopee!
