Summary: Based upon a true story

Joanna Tse (Ada Choi), a bright and promising medical student, falls under the admiring eye of her senior, Albert Lau (Tse Kwan Ho), who finds in her his muse. Albert is in remission from leukaemia, and Joanna is on the verge of completing her doctorate abroad in Australia. Through constant contact, and common bonds, the two fall in love and are later married. Joanna’s doctorate in Melbourne comes through, on the back of the pair’s wedding, offering her her dream…but also two years apart from her husband. Tragedy soon strikes with Albert suffering a relapse and the SARS epidemic rocking the region.

My first (and possibly) last encounter with the works of Chinese Christian filmmaking body, Media Evangelism. A strong story, and loving dedication to the (short) life of Dr. Joanna Tse, Adrian Kwan’s (IF U CARE…) film is well shot, acted and put together; it does, however, concentrate on Tse’s earlier life and marriage over her involvement in the SARS crisis. And, true to its financing body, is heavily interlaced with Christian iconography and (pop) songs of praise and devotion every time something emotionally eventful occurs. Assuredly, a very good and very touching film, but more a grand PR exercise for M.A. and the spread of Christianity amongst the Chinese community than an actual revelatory biopic on Tse and her work during the SARS epidemic.
